The caravanning lifestyle
blog / advice / new caravans / pre-owned caravans / holiday / family
You’ve got a few days to yourself, the weather’s looking good, why not head off on a trip away in the caravan? That’s the beauty of caravanning, when the opportunity arises, your home on wheels is ready to take you wherever you wish to go!
That’s not to say you can’t plan ahead as well - just that impromptu trips are great sometimes too! Caravanning allows you the luxury of both options - carefully planned breaks to places that you might stay for a week or longer, as well as last-minute getaways when the fancy takes you.
It’s important to remember that caravanning can be whatever you want it to be. Although the main demographic for caravanning may have once been largely retired couples, it’s now changing as more and more young couples and families are recognising the benefits as well.
The fun of camping with the luxury of home
Caravanning provides all the fun of camping with none of the compromises! The kids (and you!) can enjoy that feeling of being close to nature, make the most of the great outdoors and get exploring without having to pitch a tent and sleep on the floor! Choose a campsite that has all you want, whether that be lots of outdoor space, woodland and tracks for cycling, or one with facilities for you to get all your essentials easily and keep the whole family entertained. Let’s not forget the evenings, when tent or no tent, you can still light the firepit and roast those marshmallows under the stars!
All your creature comforts
Caravanning really is the best of both worlds - you can create the exact holiday you want, but with all your favourite things around you. There’s nothing like the appreciation of your first caravanning trip - especially if you’re coming from a camping background - as you really do have everything you could possibly need and want on board.
Unlike other self-catering holidays where you have to use the property owner’s things - everything in your caravan is yours, giving you that extra feeling of comfort. They’re your pillows, bedsheets, towels, cutlery - you don’t have to worry if they’re clean or who has used them before. Which, let’s face it, may be even more of a concern than usual this year!
Enjoy a day out in the local area, a long walk with a picnic or a fun family bike ride - and return back to a hot shower, cup of tea and a few Netflix shows - what more could you ask for?
Kitting out your caravan
After you've bought your caravan you’ll have the fun task of choosing all the things to go in it! You’ll need to equip your kitchen with all the necessities from mugs and cups to crockery, cutlery and utensils. Next think washroom - from towels and mats to toiletries and dispensers. Give lots of consideration to your sleeping essentials - are you planning to go for sheets and duvets or sleeping bags? You’ll also need pillows and bedding to ensure the perfect nights’ sleep.
Check out our online shop or pop into our on-site shop to browse thousands of caravan accessories - you may not even know you need it until you see it!
You can go anywhere!
Caravanning knows no limits! You can take your caravan wherever you choose - near or far - the distance you are willing to travel is the only factor you need to consider. Many caravanners stay relatively local, travelling only an hour or two from home. We are fortunate enough that we have many beautiful places on our doorstep which makes the decision to stay close easy. The South Downs, New Forest and Jurassic Coast are all within an hour or two’s drive.
On the flip side, you can venture further afield if you choose. Drive north and explore the Peak District, the Lakes or the Dales. Or perhaps you fancy sampling the city life - Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle? They’re all possible with your caravan in tow. You could also choose to cross the borders into Wales or Scotland or even get the ferry to Ireland - different countries, but still in the UK - and so many different adventures could await you...
Chill out or destination hop
The pace of your trip can be whatever you want it to be - a chill out break in a quiet destination, or an action-packed, whistle-stop tour of a few places! Both options are appealing and as it’s off-peak season, you should be able to get sites booked a little easier than the summer holidays. Do a bit of research on where you’d like to go and what sites are open and available - pitchup is a great place to start and easy to use.
Self-contained
Having your own caravan offers the convenience of your very own kitchen and washroom facilities which means you are able to be completely self-contained on all trips. You won’t need to use the communal facilities, which makes caravanning the perfect COVID-friendly holiday!
Food for thought
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to meal times. Modern caravans have well-equipped kitchens so you’ll be hard pushed to find a meal that you can’t easily make! Read our caravan cooking tips blog to get some easy and tasty meal ideas. Remember to take the barbie and on warmer days you can enjoy a burger or two alfresco style! If you’re having a lazy kind of day, why not research the local eateries and takeaways and see what takes your fancy? So many options, you’ll certainly never go hungry!
