With the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations fast approaching, what better excuse to get away from it all and enjoy a bit of quality time with your loved ones? With two consecutive bank holidays (Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June) giving you a four-day weekend, if you haven’t got any plans yet, now’s the time to make some!
Hitch up the caravan or get the motorhome out of storage and head off to enjoy the long weekend - hopefully the weather will be kind! If you just want to make the most of the extra time off with a few days away, great! Or you could look into how you could really take part in the Jubilee Celebrations...
2022 marks The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee - that’s 70 years on the throne! - and it’s a great chance to come together with your fellow Britons to mark the occasion. There are celebrations taking place up and down the country, so if you fancy getting involved, it’s not too late! Search what’s going on in different areas and make your decision on where to head to and what to do…
Where could you visit?
If you have a location in mind that you fancy, why not check out what community events are being held in that area by searching on the link above? You may find that small, localised celebrations have been planned and that pubs, cafes and other venues take on a Jubilee theme so you may be able to get involved that way.
You could even dress in red, white and blue for the day and get hats or flags for the kids! Check out Pitch Up and other caravan site finders to see what availability there is in your area of choice for the Jubilee weekend (2-5 June).
London
The Queen’s Birthday Parade - Buckingham Palace: 2 June
More than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will come together in the traditional Parade to mark The Queen’s official birthday. Beginning at Buckingham Palace, the Parade will move down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade, joined by members of the Royal Family on horseback and in carriages. The Parade will close with the traditional RAF fly-past. No booking required.
Platinum Jubilee Pageant - Buckingham Palace: 5 June
The Pageant will combine street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume to celebrate Her Majesty’s unwavering duty, love of the natural world and dedication to the Commonwealth. The procession will comprise 200 silk flags which will process down The Mall, emulating a moving river. The flags will have school children’s artwork on them, with a climate change theme. Hampshire
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Lighting – Fareham: 2 June
Fareham Borough Council and English Heritage will host this event in the grounds of Portchester Castle for the community to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. In addition to the lighting of the beacon, there will also be live music, food and drink concessions, and fun activities. Guests are invited to bring a picnic. No booking required.
Portsmouth City Council Big Lunch – Southsea Common: 5 June
Come along to Portsmouth City Council’s Big Lunch on Southsea Common (there is also a second picnic on St George V Playing Fields for those in the north of the city) and enjoy live music and activities that the whole family will enjoy. No booking required.
On The Water Jubilee Cider Festival - Lee on Solent: 2 June
If combining local live music, local British ciders and small batch local gins sounds like your type of celebration, this could be the Jubilee party for you! No booking required.
West Sussex
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in Chichester: 4 June
Chichester City Council are hosting a Gala Day carnival procession at 11am through the streets of Chichester, followed by a family fun afternoon from noon in Priory Park. Enjoy attractions, games, refreshments and music! No booking required.
Service of Thanksgiving to Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II - Chichester Cathedral: 4 June
A special celebratory service to be held in the Cathedral on Saturday 4 June at 2.30pm. The service will feature music from the Cathedral Choir and a sermon from The Bishop of Chichester, The Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner. A special drinks reception in the Cathedral Nave will follow the service. Advance booking required.
Arundel’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations: 3 and 4 June
Arundel Town Council are hosting a series of events, some of which are open to all. Friday 3 June will see a Jubilee music programme on the Town Square cobbles from 10am-3pm. On Saturday 4 June there will be a mediaeval procession in the town centre from 9am to 9.45am and more music between 9am and 3pm.
The New Forest
Lymington and Pennington – Picnic in the Park: 5 June
Family picnic with live music, fairground attractions, children’s games, stalls serving hot and cold food and drinks. No booking required.
Party in the Park – Ringwood: 5 June
Ringwood Town Council is hosting this community celebration at Carvers Recreation Ground, Ringwood. The Party in the Park will kick off at noon with live music, food and drink and a range of family entertainment. No booking required.
New Milton Lions Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Party: 3 and 4 June
Live entertainment from noon on the 3rd, culminating with a Beacon Lighting Ceremony at 9.45pm. There will be a variety of concessions reflecting the Queen’s travels around the world, a large funfair, an area for sports, and activities including a dog show, fancy dress, a French Market and a Spitfire flypast. No booking required.
Dorset
Jubilee Choral Evensong – Fordington: 4 June
The event will begin with afternoon tea in St George’s Church Hall from 1pm, followed by Choral Evensong at 4.30pm. No booking required.
Langham Wine Estate’s Jubilee Extravaganza – Dorchester: 5 June
A buffet-style banquet of classic English and Dorset Fayre from Mel at Langham Vineyard Cafe; a range of savoury and sweet treats will be served in the barn. Enjoy a glass of bubbly or two to toast the Queen’s Jubilee and then finish the day with traditional games and music from the Dart Valley Stompers. Advance booking required.
Big Lunch’ on Alec’s Field – Hazelbury Bryan: 5 June
Running from 10am until 5pm, the day will include a church service, bring your own picnic, afternoon tea and cakes, and a fun afternoon of games, races and other activities. No booking required.
