Jamie

What does your role involve?

Fixing caravans! I start each day by greeting everyone - I go over and say hello to the showroom team first, then make my way over to the workshop and greet them. Then I’ll get the first caravan in, look at what jobs need doing and crack on.

The jobs could be services, warranty work or repairs so it's quite varied which keeps it interesting. Once I’ve completed a job I’ll do the paperwork, get it down and out, and get onto the next job. I usually complete 2-3 jobs per day.

What is your career background?

I had a couple of odd jobs after leaving college but this is my first proper job. I studied bricklaying, plumbing and carpentry at college but I wanted to go in a different direction. I saw this role advertised and thought it would provide a good career path. I had encouragement from my family who own caravans as they were keen to have someone in the family that can fix theirs! When I met the Managing Director James Southwood, it made me want the job even more as it seemed like a really great company to work for.

What do you consider to be the benefits of caravanning?

I caravanned with my family growing up and it's a lot of fun; we spent a lot of time in the Dorset and Swanage areas. Caravanning holidays are cheaper than most others which is certainly a benefit too!

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

I'm learning so much, both on the job as I go, and through the formal qualifications I’m undertaking. I’m building my skills every day and learning to do every aspect of the job myself, which is very rewarding. I’ve already completed my 230v electrical qualification and I’ll be doing my gas safety and 12v electrical qualifications soon.

What is the most challenging aspect of the role?

There aren’t any negatives at all - I love every part of the job!

Why is Winchester Caravans a great place to work?

The atmosphere is fantastic and I love the fact that everyone gets on so well and supports each other. It’s a great team to be part of!
