Caravanning is the ultimate fun, family holiday!
blog / pre-owned caravans
Caravanning is fun - fact! The kids love it; being in the great outdoors, having room to run around and all topped off with the excitement of a cosy, comfy holiday home - your caravan! It offers all the fun of camping with none of the compromises.
That’s the beauty of caravanning - you’re able to enjoy all of your creature comforts thanks to your leisure battery / electric hook-up, but you’re still getting that freedom on an outdoor holiday.
What’s more, with a caravan, you’re completely self-contained! No trekking to shared toilet blocks for you or waiting in line to do your washing up! Caravans are equipped with fantastic onboard washrooms and fully functional kitchens, meaning you can have a shower, then get dinner on the go all in the comfort of your caravan!
Washrooms comprise a loo, basin, shower and other little extras such as storage, towel rails, a mirror and shelving. Most kitchens offer a cooker, hob, sink, fridge freezer, worktop for prep and even a microwave! Plug sockets will be thoughtfully placed for that all-important kettle too!
Comfort is key whilst you’re on holiday and that’s another reason why caravans are so great - they provide a great night’s sleep (with plenty of bed and sleeping configurations to choose from) and comfy sofas and seating to lounge on throughout the day and evening.
Invest in some family fun!
Whilst there is an initial outlay to buy the caravan, once it’s purchased your trips away will be extremely cost-effective. Most sites charge a nightly fee to pitch and then the rest is up to you - you can choose to spend as little or as much as you like.
There are plenty of free activities you could enjoy whilst away such as walks on the coast or in the countryside, bike rides, trips to the beach, fishing in rivers or streams, crabbing, picnics, and even exploring country parks, museums and galleries that offer free entrance.
There will also be plenty to keep the kids busy on-site if you don’t want to venture far. Climbing trees, bug hunts and a game of rounders are all fun ways to while away the hours.
At Winchester caravans and Motorhomes, we stock a wide range of high-quality, pre-owned caravans from a range of manufacturers. You’ll find a good choice of models that can accommodate 4-6 people comfortably. And they’re well-priced offering fantastic value for money with finance options available if you’d prefer to spread the cost.
Quality time
Caravanning definitely has a ‘getting away from it all’ vibe about it. Without the distraction of everyday life, you can spend your time as you wish, with your family. You can enjoy leisurely meals, get the kids to help with the prep and decide what you want to do each day, together. It can be as little or as much as you fancy!
Destination of choice
Caravanning gives you the freedom to choose where you want to go - the possibilities are endless! You simply need to decide on the location, book your site and off you go! You could choose to stay close to home - there are so many glorious places to visit in Hampshire and Dorset alone - or venture a bit further afield if you fancy. Visit somewhere you’ve always wanted to go in England or you could even cross the borders into Wales, Scotland or Ireland if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous!
An ideal base
Select a caravan site that suits the needs of you and your family. Make sure your site is in a good location for getting out and about and that it has the facilities you need such as ample stations for refilling and emptying your water tanks or an on-site shop. Some sites even offer takeaway services! Research what caravan sites are available in your chosen area on your chosen dates. Pitchup and Caravansitefinder are great websites to check out. Look for sites that are child-friendly, with lots of open space and maybe some woodland or in close proximity to the coast.
Cook up the family favourites
Mealtimes don’t have to break the bank; you can practise your caravan cooking with a variety of easy recipes including spag bol, bangers and mash, pasta bakes, fajitas, chilli or curry - or if you’re feeling a bit lazy, hot dogs or frozen pizzas are a great option. You could also treat yourself to a cheeky takeaway or pub meal if you fancy! Check out our helpful blog for some caravan cooking tips!
Spread out
Awnings are great for families as some can double the size of your footprint! It will provide extra space for the kids to play, which is ideal for rainy days. It also gives you extra space for storing stuff and you can even use it as a secondary dining or seating area using your outdoor furniture.
Take your furry friend
Most campsites allow dogs on site. This makes the family holiday complete and means that you don’t have to worry about canine care while you’re away. Your pooch will appreciate the fresh air and extra-long walkies too!
