Supporting the Clanfield Challenge

Winchester Caravans and Motorhomes have recently sponsored the Clanfield Challenge for the fourth year, providing vital support to this annual community event.

Different organisations sponsor different parts of the event and we sponsor the runners’ t-shirts, which have our logo printed on the front. The t-shirts are a different vibrant colour each year, with this year’s being a sunny yellow!

One of the Challenge organisers, Peter Garrett said: “A big thank you as always to Winchester Caravans - we truly appreciate all the support you’ve given us over the years and it goes a long way to making the event the great success it is!”

This year’s event was unfortunately a very wet one! This however, did not dampen the runners’ spirits and a great time was had by all, with many leaving positive reviews on the Challenge’s Facebook page despite the rain.

One participant said: “Brilliant event as always - thanks to all the marshals who stood around in the rain and were still there even for us snails at the back. It really helped to keep us going!”

The Clanfield Challenge, which has been running since 2016, was set up to raise money for local charities and projects, and local causes can apply for grants of up to £500 which will be funded from the profit pot. 

In recent years, the money raised has been used for many local projects including repairs to St James’ Church in Clanfield, music lessons for pupils at Petersgate Infant School, a disabled access bench at Clanfield Junior School, a football kit for Clanfield Youth FC, a new local support group set up by Butser Home Start, and sensory play equipment for the Elizabeth Foundation.

The event was originally set up by volunteers from Serenity Digital Communications Consultancy and Clanfield Joggers in collaboration with Clanfield Online, a website funded by local businesses for the benefit of the community. 

The Challenge itself consists of five races, giving you the choice of 1, 2, 5, 12 or 20 kilometres of stunning Hampshire countryside. The 1km race is for under 6s, the 2km for 5-12 year olds, the 5km for over 11s, the 12km for over 15s and the 20km for over 17s.

Winchester Caravans and Motorhomes Managing Director James Southwood said: “We’re pleased to sponsor this popular community event; it’s been going since 2016 and although challenging, it is enjoyed by all who take part. The event raises money for local projects and groups which is great and we’re proud to be part of that.”
